Moaz is 24 years old, from Syria living in the Kurdistan region of Iraq since 2016. He pursued a diploma in Petroleum Technology with the support of a HOPES scholarship funded by the EU through the ‘EU Madad Fund’ at the Erbil Polytechnic University
“I used to live in Damascus and study biomedical engineering. However, I was forced to leave and come to KRI, due to the war and its circumstances. I faced difficulties in terms of language and communication with others. I got along with people and made friends in order to improve my language and increase my capacity to communicate.
I chose Petroleum Technology because I love this field and I love working in it. I am the valedictorian of my class and was ranked first among other students. I have also completed a training course on the environment and its protection. I seek to start a job and move forward in my field and specialization. The HOPES program has facilitated my way back to my studies and encouraged me to keep up.
My message to other students facing the same difficulties is not to give up. They must keep on trying, because falling down is not a failure, but not standing up again is.”
